The FLA 2003/2004 Annual Banquet on August 7, 2004 at the Times Union Center for Performing Arts was an enormous success!   The evening began with social hour at 6:00pm with the program beginning at 7:00pm.  A special thanks goes out to Levy's Restaurants who catered the event.  Their presentation and cooperation with this event made our banquet the success it was!  We had a beautiful view of downtown Jacksonville and the St. John's River as dusk turned to night.   

We would especially like to thank Blair Wiggins with Addictive Fishing for speaking at the banquet.  He discussed different techniques in addition to presenting the 2003/2004 Lady Angler, Heather Isbell, with her plaque!  She was quite surprised to find out that her plaque was only being held back so that Blair could present this to her.  Congratulations Heather!

There were approximately 40 raffle prizes which were raffled during the banquet.  Among the most popular were the Power-Pole, bait casting/spinning combo's and the ladies gift certificate to Whitehall Jewellers.  Congratulations to Wade Hastings for winning the Power-Pole, so look for him sneaking up behind you!  Ken Weinstein led the bid on the Maron's Gift Certificate valued at $800, while J.D. Nobles and Wendell Nolan took home the bait casting combos.  Fred Rounsaville wheeled and dealed on the live auction and took home a nice bait casting combo! 

The most popular give away was the "Gull Package"!  For every time your name appeared in the Laughing Gull Report in our monthly newsletter, your name was placed in the drawing.  The winner of the gull package was well deserved as I am sure everyone agrees.....CARL HARDY!  The package contained the necessities for surviving on the water (gas can, spark plugs, rod tip repair kit, bug spray, sunscreen, etc.) and the all knowing gull hat, which by the way, fit absolutely perfect on Carl's head!

The highlight of the evening came after the Angler of the Year presentations.  J.D. Nobles had a special announcement to make which really confused Denise because this was not indicated on her agenda for the event!  Well, for this type of announcement, there was no way to add this to the program, but to "Just Do It"!  That is just what he did, too!  Yes, it's true, J.D. proposed to Denise at the banquet in front of the entire FLA club!  Of course, she gladly accepted and we hope that we will be planning a wedding in the near future!  Good luck to you both!

Again, congratulations to all of the 2003/2004 anglers and a special thanks to all of our sponsors this year, who have helped make this club the success that it is today.  Also, a special thank you to the Banquet Committee (Al Wyss, Denise Myers, J.D. Nobles, Heather Isbell and Ashley Kolbuss) for coordinating the events of this evening!
